I GUARANTEE that property taxes will not increase above the County Charter Limit (the rate of inflation) for at least four years. A provision in the County Charter—that was approved by County voters—requires any increase in property taxes above the Charter Limit to be approved by all nine council members. I will NEVER vote to approve a property tax increase during my four-year term. This County has a budget that is larger than the budget of six states. We ask our residents to contribute plenty in tax money, and those amounts will gradually increase because of inflation and increased property assessments. But the County has not done a great job of efficiently spending the money it has—and it has not spent that money on more of the things residents want. I will work to make sure Montgomery County is the place in which people want to live and operate their businesses.
Residents already pay plenty in taxes. The County government just needs to be more efficient in the way it spends our money.
The County Council in the past year increased all property taxes more than 8 percent for no good reason—that meant property owners will be paying hundreds or thousands of dollars in additional taxes every year.
Some 2018 Council candidates believe there should be another property tax increase right after the election.
We need to GUARANTEE that property taxes will not increase above the County Charter Limit (the rate of inflation) for the next four years. It was County voters who in 2008 approved the provision in the County Charter that requires any increase in property taxes above the Charter Limit to be approved by all nine Councilmembers.
We need a Councilmember who will not vote to approve a property tax increase over the next four years.
